New Bike

I went out on Saturday and bout a new bike. This is it:

It's a Giant, Boulder SE. It's not "female specific" as the guy at the shop said, but I like it. While I do like the "girlie" bike pictured below, they didn't have one in stock in my size (14").

Then again, maybe the colours are too prissy. When you're winding your way through traffic, trying to fight the urge to flip off that Prelude driver who thinks he owns the road, you don't want to look like a priss. You want to look serious. You don't want to look like you're made of sugar. You also don't want to get biking road rage in the summer when everyone has their windows down, 'cause you have no windows... and uh, they can hear you. *ahem*

Andrew and I went out to get a new helmet for me last night - my old one was conveniently in the saddle bags that were on my bike when it was stolen. Nice, eh?

He wanted me to get this helmet:

But while it is cute and I secretly liked it, well, it didn't really go with my other cycling gear. I went a little more "Tour De France" and little less "hitch up your pants".

I rode my bike to work today. YAY! I love it. But I think I need some fenders. It's raining today, so when I got here and looked in the mirror, well, I thought I had developed some freckles.

Edited May 3: Ok, rode the bike two days. Today I realized that a quick stop where I had to jump off, well, it would hurt. So I called the shop. They're going to order the women's bike for me.

Ooh, I love the hitch up your pants helmet. Even though I'm sure you would look more bad-ass with the tour de france version.

This is also coming from the person who would be driving around on a red schwinn with a basket on it if she had a bike. With the dorkiest helmet she could find.

    Congratulations on the new bike!

  2. Yay for the new bike! The helmet is cute but you made a good call on the Tour-de-france style. Those other ones are useless in road accidents!

Now I need to get my butt in gear and start biking again...

  3. Ahhhhh... yes, the red schwinn with the basket. That's my ideal bike for idyllic rides through the countryside and around town. My dad gave me my mom's old CCM from the 1970s. I'm planning to fix it up so I can use it. I'll have to photograph it. It definitely needs a dorky helmet and a basket.

  4. Oh, and they had Giant's Simple Bikes at Bicycles Plus in Bedford. Moe, you'd love them!

  5. I need a new bike. Yours is very shiny and lovely.
I had a great Schwinn in Japan. Then I had a horrific bike accident and was afraid to ride it.
I think I'm ready to get back in the saddle.

Great bike. I like the girlie one too. There's something about having a prissy bike but a not-so-prissy attitude when it comes to cars that is very appealing.

Hope you bought a good lock too.

  8. OOH! Shiney! I had a bike once, but I am too lazy to go anywhere on it. Mind you, now I sorta wish I had one....

You will need to get one of those truly obnoxious alarms for this one tho.
