Thought for Thursday

I've had lots of time to think about this and I have decided that:

I am nothing if not INCONSISTENT.
Some years, I am on the ball:
I remember birthdays; I send cards or I call.
I keep in touch with friends and family.
I have holiday cards ready to go and I get them in the mail on time.
I'm ready for all special occasions.
I am kind to the people I love the most.
I keep my house tidy and don't let things lapse.
I make appointments and get things done.
Our car is serviced on time.

Other years, like this one:
I forget birthdays and end up scrambling to make or pick up belated gifts, or place calls.
I haven't been the best family member / friend.
I don't give a rat's arse about Christmas cards. I
I'm clueless about special occasions.
I'm a grouchy crank to live with.
My house has a facade of tidiness about it (i.e. everything is shoved into cupboards, the spare room and the basement.) and I didn't get the lawn mowed that one last time.
I've cancelled several appointments and dread going to the dentist b/c I still have a cough that is sure to make dental work oh-so-much fun.
Our car is in serious need of TLC.

I feel like, this year in particular, I have not only dropped the ball, but I was standing at the top of the hill at the time and the ball went rolling madly down the hill and I haven't got the heart to chase it.

And no, this isn't about the Christmas Knitting. That, I can handle.

I live in constant chaos and self-absorbance. I never remember:
    -birthdays
    -important phone messages
    -to pay bills on time
    -to buy/mail christmas cards

    I also am terrible about:
    -picking up after myself
    -keeping my workspace tidy
    -being proactive about anything
-making dental appointments (I once went 3 or 4 yrs without a checkup)

Basically Mr Moe (who is the same way except he is into cleaning) and I stumble through life in a complete fog and it is amazing that we are not homeless.

Cut yourself some slack. If you don't I will feel even worse about my own shortcomings :)

Steph, remind me to give you a hug next time I see you. Sounds like you need it.
I'm very similar. The kids have needed their portraits done for months and soon it'll be too late for me to send them out with Christmas cards...providing I get around to sending out Christmas cards. Last year...I was totally organized. Sigh.
