Only Because It Is Lesley's Blogiversary

Sigh.

Relationship meme:

I'm assuming you mean my husband and I... 'cause the Henry and Stephanie relationship is actually much more complicated.

1. Where did you meet?
Mr Happy and I met at his parents dining room table. His parents had invited my roommates and I over for Easter dinner. His dad is a Baptist minister, so he was forever bringing home people to dinner - new people in the community, diplomats, singletons, homeless people, college students who hadn't seen a vegetable in months...

2. How long did you date?
We dated for two and a half years.

3. How old is he?
Almost 39. Gasp.

4. Who eats more?
He does.

5. Who said “I love you” first?
I really can't remember. A year or so into our relationship we both confessed that at the end of our first date, we had an overwhelming urge to say, "I love you." We didn't even kiss each other good night, but we just knew. Awwwwwww.

6. Who is taller?
Well, I'm only three apples tall, so it doesn't take much to be taller than me.

7. Who sings better?
Him. If you need evidence, pick up a cd.

8. Who is smarter?
Um... We both have degrees that neither of us are using. So I don't think that either of us are really all that "smart" some days. We're both smart in our own way. I'm book smart, but he is hands-on smart. He can fix things, make things, record horrible singers and make them sound good... and he has all these weird random facts in his head that freak me out.

9. Whose temper is worse?
Me. And it ain't pretty.

10. Who does the laundry?
Me. Many moons ago someone shrunk my favourite grey cardigan. He does hang out, fold and put away, but I'm captain of the laundry squad. (Don't tell anyone, but I kind of enjoy doing laundry.)

11. Who sleeps on the right side of the bed?
Him. But we used to sleep on opposite sides when we were first married. I don't know why or when we switched.

12. Who pays the bills?
Both of us.

13. Who cooks dinner?
Usually me b/c Mr. Happy works late most nights, and by late I mean 1am and beyond. But if he's home, we make supper together.

14. Who drives when you are together?
Him - because I like to knit or shout random things like, "Slow down!", "What are you doing?", "Ack, do you have to turn like that?", "It's 50km/hr here!"
He loves it when I do that. And I know he doesn't drive nearly as well when I'm not in the car. Heh heh.

15. Who is more stubborn?
Me.

16. Who kissed whom first?
He kissed me. And then he sat back and promptly banged his head on a windowsill.

17. Who is the first to admit to being wrong?
We don't usually have those "I'm right and you're wrong" arguments.

18. Whose parents do you see the most?
His. My dad and SM live almost 5 hours away.

19. Who proposed?
He did. The night before our wedding. And no, we didn't elope. We had 160+ people attending. It's a cute story. Maybe I'll tell you some time.

20. What’s his best physical attribute?
His ocean eyes...

21. Who has more friends?
I'm not sure. He knows WAY more people in town b/c of his business, but I get to hang out with my friends more than he does.

22. What are you most proud of him for?
For his awesome songwriting skills and for writing and recording a song about us.

23. Who has more siblings?
We're even at one.

24. Who wears the pants in the family?
There are no pants. It's all about comfy pajamas at our house.

I will tag no one... but if you want to do this meme, it's all yours.

Christmas Tags

Silly chihuahua tagged me:

The Rules:
The player of this game starts with "3 things he/ she would love to get for Christmas" and also has to list "3 things he/ she definitely does not want to get for Christmas". Then he/she tags 5 friends and list their names. The ones who get tagged need to write on their blogs about their Christmas wishes, as well as state this rule clearly, then tag 5 more victims. And the one who tags need to leave a comment that says "you've been Christmas tagged!" in their comments and tell them to read your blog.

Ok, so I'm going to give you my lists, but I'm going to make the tag optional. All you KOLerscan decide if you want to participate.

Three Things I Want For Christmas:
1. Tall black boots
2. A cankle-ectomy so those boots will zip up past my cankles. Le Sigh.
3. The ability to warp the space-time continuum so that I can finish my Christmas knitting.

Three Things I Definitely Do Not Want For Christmas
1. Acrylic yarn
2. Tendonitis (although, at this rate, I'll probably get it anyway)
3. The Norwalk/Noro virus (three of my coworkers have had it)

Alrighty then. That's it. Merry Christmas to all.

For Gromit

As a welcome for Gromit, who has come back to the blogging world after a terribly long absence, I will participate in yet another meme. Yes, I know - two memes in one week. And no photos in forever.

Here, this will keep you going:

Dancing snowmen

It's a vintage Christmas card that was in a book of stencils I found when my SIL's in-laws moved and I helped with their yard sale. There are more snowmen and dancing angels on the inside.

I've got a lot of my Christmas knitting done. I hope to take the time this weekend to photograph all the lovely FOs I have about the house. As it turns out, I'm a pretty fast knitter when I put my mind to it!

Ok, the meme.

6 Weird Things About You:

THE RULES:Each player of this game starts with the ‘6 weird things about you.’ People who get tagged need to write a blog of their own 6 weird things as well as state this rule clearly. In the end, you need to choose 6 people to be tagged and list their names. Don’t forget to leave a comment that says ‘you are tagged’ in their comments and tell them to read your blog."

1. I bake when I have a case of the mean reds. My neighbour, who is often called upon to eat the baking, has given me a motto: "When all else fails, bake." I bake at other times too (obviously, or no one would get a birthday cake in Andrew's family), but when I'm feeling down, a pan of brownies or cutting a roll of cinnamon buns always soothes my soul.

2. I look forward to the cold weather. I would say this is because I love winter activities - like snow shoeing and cross country skiing, but I haven't been able to do these things regularly for years. I think it is because the cold reminds me of all those happy times growing up in New Brunswick: snow-mobiling with my parents, sledding with the neighbourhood kids, building forts, hitting my snow covered mittens on the woodstove, throwing hissy fits over poorly fitting snow shoe harnesses (right Dad?)... Ahhh, good times.

I am often disappointed, however, in Nova Scotian winters, as I rarely get to experience the kind of cold that makes snot freeze in your nose. It's just not cold enough here for the snow to squeak underfoot every day for a month.

3. I love building things using instructions. Mr. Happy hates reading instructions and assembling things, so I have put together things like an Ikea bookshelf, the stand for our mitre saw, and the computer desk at my in-law's condo. I had to be forcibly removed from my nephew's Lego set a few weeks ago and I think that if I actually liked the chocolate in Kinder Eggs, then our house might be covered in small plastic toys.

4. My sense of humour. Enough said.

5. I get snakey when something is rattling, either in my house, my office or my car. I've been known to make trips to the basement just to tap the humming face plate on my furnace (the noise stops). The CPU in my office computer sometimes decides to hum, so that gets a tap. And right now, the passenger side lock in our car rattles (thanks to the new window) and the Ninja can attest that it doesn't when the door is locked.

6. For people in blogland whom I haven't met in person: I have a low-pitch to my voice that can make it hard to hear me when I'm mumbling. Which I do often (not so much at KOL). I've noticed that elderly people have a hard time hearing my voice due to the pitch. Over the last few years, I've had to do a lot of talking to large groups of people, so I've learned to project my voice better. But when I'm tired, I find this to be a strain.

Pajama Time

It's 2:30pm and I'm sitting on the couch in my jammies. I feel like such a slob.

I finished the main part of the baby sweater I've been working on (sorry, no photos, that would involve moving from this spot I've occupied since 11:30am). Now I just need to pick up the stitches for the collar. Should be interesting. Maybe I'll play around in my stash in an attempt to avoid that!

Wait, that would involved getting up too...

Sigh...

I'll just sit here and answer the Meme that Minou sent.

1.) Total number of books in your house:
Oh dear. There are quite a few - but not nearly as many as some people. I mean, I haven't earned a lifelong discount card from Chapters yet. I also went through the books and put quite a few in the yard sale pile. Let's see, about 500? I dunno - I'm on the couch. I can't go look.

2.) The last book you bought was:
Um, gee... does the Debbie Bliss Special Knits Book count? No? Ok, how about "You Grow Girl" the book about gardening? No, I guess that't more of a reference book, not a good read. I guess it was "A Rhinestone Button" by Gail Anderson Dargatz (is that how she spells her name? the book is upstairs...). I haven't read it yet. It's beside my bed, though.

3.) What was the last book you read before reading this?
The last book I finished? no, that can't be what you mean. Ok, the book that I am reading right now is Mary Magdalene - I don't remember the author's name (again - it's beside the bed and I'm not going up there until I have to pee - which may be soon...). JAK lent it to me. It's quite interesting, really. I'm only a little ways into it.

4) Write down 5 (or 6) books you often read or that mean a lot to you.
Well, you're just forcing me to get off the couch to go look at the bookshelves, aren't you. Darn it.

One True Thing - by Anna Quindlen
I read it a couple of years after my mom died. Although most of the things that happened to the characters in the book did not happen to us (no affairs, no drug overdoses, no arrests) - the basic idea was similar: a daughter goes home to care for her mother. I thought for sure that the author had been watching our lives and had been inside my head for the year that my mom was sick. It was the best therapy I have ever had and it cost less than $10. I have not read the book since, but I will always keep a copy of it on my bookshelf in case I ever feel the need to read it again.

Braided Lives by Marge Piercy
I read this book in my last year at University for a Women's Studies/English course. It had a huge impact on my beliefs.

Emily of New Moon - The series (3 books) by Lucy Maude Montgomery
I've read these books many times over the years. I don't remember how old I was when I first read them, but I adored Emily. She was mysterious and magical in ways that Anne of Green Gables didn't appear to be (although, I never did read the Anne books).

A Little Princess and The Secret Garden by Frances Hodgson Burnett
If you haven't read these two books, wow are you ever missing out. Again, these are children's books, but I go back to them every now and then. The characters in them show you how to escape. Sigh. Find a child and read these books to him/her...Now! Go!!

The Princess Bride by William Goldman
Bwah ha ha ha ha ha ha ha - so much better than the movie. I've read this about 10 times in the last 15 years.

The Many Lives and Secret Sorrows of Josephine B by Sandra Gulland
Brilliant Historical fiction. Josephine as in Napoleon and Josephine. There are three books in the series. Bloody brilliant, they are!

5.) Who are you going to pass the stick to (three people) and why?
JAK - 'cause she loves to read and to write and she might like doing this!

And if anyone wants to get tagged, just let me know... I haven't the foggiest as to who has done this and who hasn't.

Alrighty then, I have got to go upstairs now. See y'all later.

Tagged - by a Chihuahua

Minou has chosen to tag me to do the TV meme thingamabob. Thanks Min min. Let's see here... This is going to be interesting, considering my television situation...

1. How much space is left on your TiVo or Comcast box?
Well, well. TiVo or Comcast. Ladies and gents, here in the wilds of Nova Scotia, we don't have such luxuries.* No, here we have what we affectionately call:
Peasant Vision
Pogey-cable
Do-fer TV (as in, it'll do-fer now)
Let me set the scene. We have a guest in the house. He/she is watching tv. Somehow, this person has the remote control. I am waiting for what inevitably happens:
"tonight on CBC"
*click*
"Canadian Idol on CTV!!!"
*click*
"A rare glimpse into the love life of Peter and Belinda, tonight on Global."
*click*
"do do do dee doo doo... ba Dah, ba Dah, Dah dah dah dahhhhh...Air Farce on CBC"
*click*
"And I-eeeeee-I willlll always looooooove you-eeeee-ooooooo..."
*click*
"We're thinking about taking ballroom dancing lessons, you know, as a couple."

The wheels spin, the guest's head turns as if in slow motion. Eyes wide, he/she says, "You only have three channels?"
I love how they always say it with incredulity and a hint of concern. I like to imagine that they would use the same tone of voice to ask, "You only have two toes on your left foot?" or, "You have a highly contagious STD?"

I TiVo the old way - VCR tapes and a timer. 'Magine that! No cable, no TiVo, but I CAN program a VCR! I have set every clock on every electronic device I've ever met. But I leave the one on my stereo flashing just for kicks.

2. Have you ever bought a DVD of a TV series and if so which one?
No, I haven't. But if I were to make this purchase I would choose:
M*A*S*H
The Gilmore Girls
Kids In The Hall
And something with doorbells for when Minou visits.

3. What was the last TV show you watched before typing this message?
It's Saturday, and I don't watch TV on Saturday mornings (Saturdays are for CBC Radio 1. GO!!!!). I watched the Gilmore Girls last night and everything else after that sucked, so I guess that was it. I sometimes catch Alias on Saturday afternoons.

4. List 5 shows you can't live without.
Oh dear - the TV viewing on Peasant Vision has been pretty crappy this season. Right now, I would have to say:
1. The Gilmore Girls
2. Medium
3. Corner Gas (but I sometimes miss this b/c of other shows)
4. Will And Grace (reruns every day after work - yay!)
5. That 70s Show
And any number of decorating/home reno shows that are on cable when I am away on business trips. Yay hotel cable.

5. Name 3 people to whom you will pass these questions.
I'm pretty sure everyone in bloggy land has done these...
Oh wait, if JAK if she's interested... and Les if the babies haven't worn her out...
and, and... meh, I'm out.

Thanks Min min. That was fun.

Today is Pippin's last day at Aunt Sessanie's Dog Retreat and Spa (he had muddy feet yesterday - the bathtub and some Fructis shampoo were necessary, hence "Spa"). I'll have some more photos of him later!

Ooof. Getting hungry. I'm going to make me some cheater Pad Thai.** It's Luc's famous recipe. Yummmmm.

*I live on a boat that is docked near a tiny fishing village too. We eat fresh fish at every meal and in the winter, I live in my igloo. Ha ha hahhahahahahahhaaaaaa...
Bell Digital Cable has made it here. I just don't want to pay for something that is just another way for me to waste my time! I watch enough now - imagine if I had 30 channels instead of 3!!!! Eep.

**Yes, I know the sentence was grammatically incorrect. I think incorrect grammar and Pad Thai sauce in a package go together quite well, thank you very much. It's like setting the fine china for the Kraft Dinner, or as Ang and I used to call it "Hack and Wheeze".

I am sooooo not checking this post for errors. I'm famished.
