Ok then...

...so I won't do that again. Although, I'm sure it just counts toward that "eat a peck of dirt before you die" rule of thumb and I don't appear to be suffering any ill effects from it. (This from the girl who may have drank the tap water in Brazil.)

I had stuck the gum to the top of my keyboard (which I clean regularly, b.t.w.) at the end of the day while talking on the phone... and then absentmindedly popped it in my mouth the next morning while checking email.

Just a thought: isn't chewing gum meant to be stored on the bedpost over night?

And in the theme of randomness that this "knitting" blog has become, I would just like to say that my new, least favourite, corporate buzz phrase is:

"working in silos"

Don't even get me started on how this metaphor is incredibly inaccurate. Next person who says it, gets a slap from my tiny but mighty hand.

  1. I've heard a few buzz phrases, but never working in silos. More about fires.

  2. What is "working in silos" even supposed to mean? Is it jargon for "keeling over dead from inhaling methane gas in an enclosed space"? Because I wouldn't mind seeing that happening a little more often at the corporate level.

  3. Ha! We have those "working in silos" vs. Horizontal collaboration in government all the time. It's pretty bogus.

  4. i'm with meegie - we're big on horizontality to break down the silos... it's a real paradigm shift. now if only the rubrick was clearer...

  5. Buzz phrases in my industry mostly begin with the letter "F".

  6. What exactly does "working in silos" mean? I keep picturing the silo in my neighbour's field back home.

"Working in silos" means never having to ask your counterpart in another department what is going on there.
Therefore work will be repeatedly replicated. Or work is not done at all because no information is shared between specialties.
An example is being in hospital for nearly two months following a failed suicide attempt. But going to see your doctor a few weeks after you get home - and he doesn't know anything about where you were or why.
