I Was Going To Blog About Knitting

And I was going to blog about painting our bedroom.

I even thought about blogging my new haircut...

But this is much more interesting, don't 'cha think?

Bike accident

On my way home tonight, less than a kilometre from my office, I caught my handlebars on the gate by a school.

I fell hard. Bouncing my helmet off the ground.

I assessed the damage and got up slowly. A little girl went by on her bike and asked:

"Are you ok?"

I said, "Yes, but I hurt myself a little."

She said, "Oh." and biked away.

I picked up my bike and saw my handlebar mirror on the ground. The metal was twisted. That's when I saw my leg.

Bike accident

Ick. My cellphone was dead so I had no choice but to bike home. Andrew was outside with the lawnmower, talking to a friend. They were both pretty horrified.

I went inside to get cleaned up and Andrew came in to help, getting me an ice pack and mixing up some saline to rinse my leg.

I'm starting to stiffen up already, and the road rash on my arm is pretty nasty, but I think I'll be ok.

Bike accident

But I'm really glad that I wear a bike helmet. And gloves.

I think I'll go have a lie down now.

  1. Holy jeez! You really roughed yourself up there, didn't you? This is going to hurt tomorrow morning . . .

At least your head is still in one piece and you can knit. You can knit, can't you?

  3. OUCHIE!!! I'm glad you're ok. But for what it's worth, despite your bumps and bruises, you still look smashing with your new hair cut. (no pun intended.)

Like they say, it's not how quickly we rise from a fall that determines our character, but how cute we look doing it. :)

  4. Yay! We match! I have scars down the right side of my body from a bike accident I had in 2002. I went right over the handlebars. I fell on my right side and ended up looking like I had tangled with a cheese grater. I have two scars on my elbow, one on my lower back, and a huge one on my right knee. Here's to a quick heal for you!

    ps... love the cut!

  6. reminds me of when I fell in the mud in winnipeg in the ran and had blood running down my leg - it was way before cell phones (at least for me) and the few people I passed were to scared to ask if I was even ok. That was the day I ended up wearing Keanu pants....

All Right !!! This is awesome!! With the Tour de France' in full swing and you being related to hard core mountain bikers, the ROAD RASH is both timely and a symbol a higher cycling experience. This puts you in another catagory. Not only do you cycly with commitment for all the right reasons but now you have felt the "pain". Wear your stiffness and strut your limp with pride. Welcome to the club. Glad your head was protected. Helmets are the only way to go.

    Love ya lots

OUCH! Your leg looks like my daughter's recent cycling injury. Only she was learning to ride a unicycle with spiked pedals (the owner is a hardcore uni-guy) and got going too fast, ending up a$$ over teakettle with her leg tangled around the pedal. Somehow she managed to scrape from her knee, down her shin, and around to the back of her calf. The spikes made it look like she tangled with a mountain lion. Oh, the best part? She was in her living room! Heal fast! And please have your helmet checked. The pads are often compromised after a hard bang.

  14. Oh No! Years ago when I was riding bikes with my children I fell and cup myself up...as I walked the bike home my children followed me and helped by making loud ambulance noises...it did cheer me up a bit! I hope you're feeling better soon, Jane

  18. Owie... the road rash looks painful, as does your leg. I'm sure this was not the summer look you were planning.
    Thank goodness for helmets.
    Your Andrew is a keeper.
    Love your haircut, very cute!

  19. Ouch! I'm glad you're mostly okay. I'll have to show you the scars all down my left leg from a spill I had due to needing new tires, and a pebble about 15 years ago (ack! has it really been that long!?!). Yup, a pebble took me down, hard.

  23. Yowza, I hope you indulged in a bit of therapeutic knitting to help you past the aches. With a stiff arm you don't want to ignore the benefits of physical therapy!
