Hey, The Scarecrow called...

... He wants to know if I need a brain.

Upstairs about an hour ago:

"Hmmmm... what's that smell? Something smells hot. The neighbour's must be barbecuing."

Back to ironing.

La dee da, bee ba da...

Time passes, I'm in the bedroom packing

"Gee that smell is kinda nasty. Is that my iron?" Check iron. "huh... Maybe I should go downstairs and make sure I didn't leave a burner on or something."

GAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

I put the kettle on the burner, like forever ago. It burned dry. The bottom of the kettle was almost as red as the burner!!!!!! Holy ole crap.
The kettle looks like it went through the war, but I think it'll survive, once it, uh, cools down enough so that I can take the lid off! Yikes.

This isn't the first time this has happened in our house. I threatened Andrew to within an inch of his life when he did that during band practice one time.

Thank goodness Paderno cookware is resiliant.

I think I'm preoccupied with vacation preparations. Anyone care to comment?

  1. I do that all the time. Now I have an electric kettle, which doesn't whistle but does have an automatic shutoff. It shut off on me yesterday, and I caught it in time twice today, both times out of water but not shut off yet. Sheesh.

yet another thing we have in common. My husband is constantly turning the oven off for me. Luckily, even though we have a paderno kettle, I still use the $10 cheapo version that whistles like hell when the water is boiling.

I worry sometimes about my level of forgetfullness at 12 days short of 30. Aging gracefully seems to be a fruitless goal. I'm also constantly tearing the house apart for things I've misplaced. Currently there is a vigilant search going on for my cute little leather purse from the gap. I know I saw it somewhere...

    have fun on vacay!

Hey, been there, done that. Also have put the milk in the cupboard and the cereal in the fridge.

I tell myself it's because I'm a creative sort and can't be bothered with practicalities. Now, where is that cell phone bill anyway?

    Have a great vacation!

Gah.... I do that stuff all the time. It is amazing our building is still standing.

I hope you have a wonderful (well-deserved) vacation... it sounds like a great time!

I've done this too. A word of warning... don't lift the hot kettle from the stove just shut the burner off. 2 years ago I lifted the kettle to put it into the sink - the solder holding the double bottom had melted. (it was top of the line, well made kettle) The end of the story was a very serious burn to a bare foot, $3000 damage to the kitchen. I now use an auto shut off electric kettle.
