White Point Beach

Ok, I know, it's been too long. It's been a crazy week. I was in Truro on Monday and Tuesday this week to run a training session. It's not far from home but we stayed overnight anyway b/c day 2 started early.

Last night we had overnight guests - my dear friend Becca and her new boyfriend were here. They're on their way to B.C. to see her parents for a week. AHEM! It was our first time meeting him. He got the seal of approval. He didn't even flinch when I whipped out the big flashlight, pointed it in his face and proceeded to question him about his intentions with Becca. And he was very discreet when he wiped my spittle from his forehead.

You know I'm kidding don't you? The flashlight was just a little mag-light. Heh heh. Anyway, from what I can tell, his intentions are all honourable. Very, very honourable.

This morning they got up at 4:30am to catch their 7am flight. I heard them get up, but I rolled over in bed and didn't hear them leave. I completely forgot to put the number for a cab company by the telephone last night!!!! Apparently they managed ok, as they weren't here when I rolled out of bed at 6:30am this morning.

Yes, you read that correctly: 6:30am on a Saturday morning. What, for the love of all that is good and holy, was I doing? I had to be at a training seminar in a small town about 1.5 hours away. The course was all about compounding. It's my favourite thing to do when I'm in the dispensary - it's like baking, but with math! I LOVE IT. So it was a really good day. We even went over the basics of Aseptic Technique, so I got to inject stuff into an IV bag. Very cool.

After the session, I went outside. The training session was held at White Point Beach Resort. It's a wonderful place. I've been there a couple of times with work and a couple of years ago Andrew and I spent a night there with his sister and her family.

Today the sun was out and although it was cold, it wasn't unbearable. I managed to take some photos before my hands got really cold. Here's a view of the waves and the rocks:

That is ice on the rocks.

There is a large, uh, herd? of rabbits that roam the property. Here's one little guy who was giving me the once over:

He hopped up to me afterward, looked at his photo on the camera screen and agreed, "It's a keeper."

I can't remember the full story behind the rabbits, but I do know that they are friendly, and pretty cute. They live freely on the property and are quite friendly. As you can see here:

He was sniffing my hand to see if I had any rabbit food. Uh, no. Sorry little buddy. He and two other bunnies were actually enjoying a rather nice snack that someone had kindly left for them on the sidewalk. If anyone wants some bunny video footage, let me know!

For Les. Who might be missing the ocean.

When I signed up for this event, it was suggested that Andrew go with me and we spend the night. While it would have been nice, he has too much work to do with the band to spare a night away. Truthfully, I really just wanted to wake up at home tomorrow and know that I didn't have anything on my agenda for the day. Almost every weekend has been filled up with either working at the shop (don't get me wrong, I LOVE working at the shop) or preparing for a visitor (and I LOVE visitors) or a trip. I just want to sleep in tomorrow, knit, maybe do some cooking and nap.

Now, some of you might be wondering WHY my husband so busy? Well, it seems that he will be heading to South by Southwest in Austin Texas. It has been up in the air as to whether or not he would be going, but a call from a well-connected couple of musicians and a query from a British lable, has them in a scramble. Keep your fingers crossed gang. He leaves on the 14th and returns on the 17th.

I'm not worried about being on my own while he's gone, as Pippin is coming to stay with me for a week. I'm so excited about having the Pipster come for an extended visit. We're going to have so much fun. Anyone who visits during Pippin's stay please be sure to wear waterproof shoes as we are still working on the "I'm so excited to see you that I could just pee my pants" dance that he does when visitors arrive.

As for knitting... I've been working on a pair of socks quite dilligently. Details later. I think tomorrow, I'll organize a post about my current WIPs. Oh, and share some exciting/frightening news about something I'm doing at the shop: eaching-tay a lass-cay.

  2. I am so jealous. I have wanted to go to White Point Beach for over 8 years now, I've seen all the ads in the newspaper, tv etc, but with two kids and no relatives nearby, hubby and I can rarely go away on a weekend whim. I remember those single years!
