It's Finally Done...*

The gauntlets from H*ll are finally done.

Remember how I said that I had to rip one of them back several times (5, but who's counting) to get the size right?

Yeah. Well.

I finished them both with the exception of the thumbs and laid them on my lap to admire my handiwork. I proudly showed them off to Mr. Happy. He agreed that, "Yes, the Koigu is beautiful" and, "Yes, they are fabulous." Then he changed the channel on the TV.

I gazed fondly at the gauntlets, imagining how cute they would be with thumbs and realizing how impractical they are for the Canadian winter, but how perfect for the cool Canadian spring and fall when paired with my denim jacket.

Then, the fog of amnesia started to lift:

"Hmmmm... something is wrong here. I can't quite put my finger on it... Hmmmm... what could it be?

(Please imagine that hazy white "Another World" frame around the images in my memory.)

Oh, my head hurts. I'm remembering something. I'm remembering strawberries... and chocolate... a mutant Sophie going into the washing machine... knitting outside in the sun... and a conversation with a Frozen Lady.

What's going on here? What is troubling my sad, amnesia riddled brain? Will I ever figure it out? Will I ever know the secret of the gauntlets? Will Rachel ever get over Mack's sudden death?

With a furrowed brow, I look down at the gauntlets.

What the heck? I cast on SIX extra stitches after the thumbhole?????"

DOH!
So, I ripped back, yet again, and reknit. They are finally done. And yesterday it was too warm outside to wear them.

Finally done!

Yarn: Koigu KPPM
Needles: 2.25mm
Pattern: Elegant Gauntlets from The Knitting Experience: The Purl Stitch by Sally Melville
Comments: I did not get gauge, but didn't bother switching needle sizes. I didn't want the less-dense fabric that a bigger needle size would create. So, instead, I ripped and cursed my way through the first gauntlet. It was a learning experience!

And just in case you're all wondering how much I changed Mr. Happy and I in that photo a few days ago:

just so you know

Not my favourite photo of us (my head looks strange in the hat - and hello? Double chinnage!)... but the photoshopped version? My absolute favourite!

*It's Finally Done is the first track of one of Mr. Happy's band's cds... it expresses my sentiments exactly.

The gauntlets look great. The Koigu is a lovely colour. When & if I ever get around to making a pair of gauntlets I had planned to wear them over leather gloves in the winter.
