YAY!

Today is the day! Today is the very best day.

Do you know why?

Do you really, really want to know why it's the best day?

Because today is the day that X3 comes out in the theatres.

When I was a kid, I spent a lot of time at my parents' pharmacy. When I was finished my homework, and when I wasn't busy "helping" (cleaning shelves, organizing drawers, ) or lurking in the basement, hiding from and scaring unsuspecting staff members, I would spend my time reading whatever I could get my hands on.

I read comic books every day from about 1979 until I started going home on my own after school in 1988. I would sit in a very uncomfortable chair in my mother's office, eating a chocolate bar and pushing up my glasses as I read. I was a HUGE fan of the Xmen when the comics came out. The first two movies have included scenes that I can remember reading as a kid. Those scenes are an absolute delight to watch.

I'm very excited about seeing how Kitty Pride is portrayed b/c I read all of the Magik comics that followed her story. I'm also excited about Kitty b/c she is Halifax's own Ellen Page. A few years ago she appeared in an indy film for which Mr. Happy's band wrote the score and in which they also appeared. WEIRD, eh?

Ah, yes, fair internet, I am not just a geek who knits, bakes, and writes about it online... I'm also a geek who is fairly well-versed in the comic book culture of the 1980s.

What's more frightening is that b/c I was such a voracious reader, when I finished all the comics for that month, and whatever novels I was devouring at the time, then I would read Good Housekeeping magazine, Chatelaine, and Canadian Living. And when times got really desperate, I would read the Hallmark cards. Oh yes, I would. All the funny ones. In case you were wondering: they've been recycling the jokes for years.

How do ya like me now?

  4. How do I like ya now? Oh. I think I like ya heaps.
I was the same voracious reader. My family are also unabashed magazine junkies.
    No wonder I'm blind.

  5. You're fabulous darling, simply fabulous!

Phil and I are planning to rope my mom into babysitting so we can go see X3...although she just watched them last night so it might be a while before we get to...but I am glad to hear you are excited and how it brings back memories for you, and I always suspected that Hallmark had nothing new to say...

you're a total dork! heh heh heh...

so what if I used to read the hallmark cards while waiting for mom and dad to finish in the store. I definitely didn't read good housekeeping. DORK.
    heh heh...
Now I work on stupid hallmark movies which are about as interesting as the cards only they last for HOURS. But I could not possibly be a dork.
    Dork.
I can't get the security word right - this is my 3rd attempt.

I'm glad others fail the security word test too. Repeatedly.

Oh Steph, I heart the geekiness. I have yet to actually see an X-men movie. Sounds like I need to see what all the fuss is about...

  8. I have the first 2 XMen movies on DVD (ditto Spiderman) and can't wait to see the third. I watch XMen cartoons with my son. I read comic books as a kid (Spiderman and Xmen were my favourite) and I still read anything that's not nailed down. The geekyness knows no bounds. SO trust me when I say you are wonderful, just the way you are!
