Purple Coneflowers

Last year I planted some Purple Coneflowers that didn't bloom at all. I was disappointed, but figured I'd wait and then they'd come up this year. I forgot about them and then I almost pulled them out this spring, thinking they were weeds. Luckily, I saw the little tag I'd left in the soil to remind me what they were. Phew. Narrow miss.

Only one of them is blooming so far. The rest are biding their time.

On Wednesday night, it looked like this:

I love your cone flowers. I envy anybody's ability to grow things, as I seem to kill just about everything I get my hands on.

Hi, new reader here. I've bought some of your beautiful stitch markers at Tangled Skeins (I absolutely love them.) and I Googled you and found your blog.

Out goldfinches love the coneflower heads in the fall. They eat the seeds from them. The wind will blow and the birds will ride the coneflower heads in the breeze.
