The Armview - Another Local Haunt

I'm sitting in the lobby of the Ramada in St. John's, Newfoundland right now. I'm here despite feeling like three bags of poo on Sunday night (I had a cold that ran through my system in less than 18 hours, leaving me with a pile of tissues and a red nose.)

We've just finished the first of the two pharmacy student career fairs I'll attend this week - this first one at Memorial University, with 160 students, is like the primer for the one we'll be attending for Dalhousie University on Thursday night. There are 360 students in that program. I'm on my own for that event. Here's hoping my voice stands up to the challenge.

I'm flying in around 8:30 tonight, so I won't make it to KOL - have fun gang!

The following is a little post I wrote on Sunday about a great little restaurant in Halifax. It's mostly to serve as a note to Dad and Ivy - we've GOT to go here the next time you visit - the food is delicious!

When my Uncle K, Auntie K and Cousin Jenny were here a couple of weeks ago we picked up Mr. Happy at his studio and went to lunch at the Armview restaurant in Halifax.

I found a nice little review of the restaurant here. I'm pretty sure J is right in saying that the Armview has the potential to become, if it hasn't already, a mecca of vintage-coolness. It was my first visit to the place... and as her review was written over a year ago, I wonder if J is still able to enjoy her morning newspaper at a table looking out onto the Arm. It was pretty quiet when we were there, but it was also raining.

It's got Vintage Coolness down pat, but I'm just not sure if the downtown hipsters have arrived.

You be the judge:

Erm... Mr. Happy? Are you a downtown hipster?

For J, whose review I linked, I hope that there is always a table for you at this restaurant... but that it's busy enough to keep the place open. For me, I'm just looking forward to another Marguerita Chicken Wrap. Tequila-Lime mayo? I'll disguise myself as a hipster if that's what it takes.

The Armview was an extra in one of the movies shot here last year. Possibly the Poor Boy’s Game...

  2. I love the Armview. They make a mean Reuben sandwich and yummy breakfast.

Hmm, thanks for the review...rummaging through my closet for some hip clothes (to no avail)...

  5. you guys are all var hip!

anyway, the only times I've been to this place it's been super-packed... with the hip and non-hip alike. the food is good though and i would go more often if i didn't have to wait so long for a table - i guess i should try going at non-breakfast times.

  6. I'm happy to report that the Armview is so far retaining its neighbourhood feel. The key to getting some peace and quiet on a Sunday, though, is going early - i.e. before 10 am. By about 11, the place is packed with brunchers.

It's a fine choice any time of day, or any day of the week, though.

    Thanks for the acknowledgement! :-)
