The week after the apron and pillow making, we had another birthday party to attend. Yet another of the Mogrunt's wee friends was turning 2.
I talked to her mom and found out that this little girl is a huge fan of monkeys. I knew exactly what I wanted to make, having seen some very cute little dolls on Wee Wonderfuls a few years ago.
I just needed a model. A quick internet search and I was sketching the infamous George onto some paper and then using some of my mom's transfer paper to transfer the image to linen.
Dipping into my stash of embroidery floss from those days when cross stitch was my drug of choice, I quickly (as quickly as one who is out of practice) stitched up the little monkey you see in the photo.
The rest of the process went well until I started to sew the little monkey closed: My sewing machine chose that time to rebel against me and spit out excess thread from the bobbin.
This is a recurring problem and my usual methods of fixing it proved futile (cursing and other, more technical and appropriate techniques were employed), so I pulled up my big girl panties and hand-stitched the bottom closed. Which is really what the situation (but not the clock) demanded.
Rumour has it that the Monkey is well-loved and has already caused at least one argument between the two year old recipient and her older sister.
What a cute idea!
