Being the Auntie

My SIL is having her annual "girls escape" night with her friends and as her husband is out of town, I've got the kids. My niece(10), and two nephews (8 and 6) are spending the night ... Oh, and Pippin too.

We had a great evening - I had the boys outside with my magnetic reacher thingy picking up nails around the shed. When I asked the middle guy if he would like to use it to find the nails, his eyes got as big as saucers. He and the youngest, 6-years-old, spent 20 minutes finding nails before supper. I'm brilliant, I tell you - entertain the kids and make my yard safe for bare feet. It's child labour disguised as a game.

After supper, we headed off to the movie theatre to see "Madagascar". While I thought it was funny, it moved rather slow at first. My niece and nephews liked it - and hearing the youngest laugh was worth it. Mind you, the King Lemur of questionable intelligence really cracked me up. I was very excited to see the previews for Chicken LIttle and for the Wallace and Gromit Movie. I love those guys - Gromit even knits in the preview!!!

When the movie let out we hit Dairy Queen for a blizzard. Yum. LIke I needed a Blizzard. (Especially since I just came in from sitting on the back step snorfing down the last piece of chocolate cheesecake under the cover of darkness!).

The kids were so cute when we were getting in the car after DQ - each of them thanked me for taking them to the movie and for taking them out for ice cream. I need to do this more often. They're pretty well behaved little mogrunts.

Now the kiddies are tucked in bed and snoozing away. They need their sleep. Tomorrow my dad is coming back to put the siding on the shed. I can't have those kids operating the mitre saw while they are drowsy! We've had quite enough amputees in this family!

(You know I'm kidding, right? I'd give them some coffee if they were starting to feel sleepy while using the saw or the nail gun.)
