Too Busy To Blog

I feel like I'm in a Richard Scarry's Busy Busy World.

What I've been up to:
1. Our company golf tournament was on Wednesday. It's a fundraiser for the Children's Wish. I drove one of these to the tournament and back. It was the prize for a hole in one on the 2nd hole. (No one won.) What a fun car to drive. Vroom, vroom. It's got some serious power. Screeeech... vroom... The tournament was a 12 hour day for the office staff. I'm still pretty tired from that.

2. I worked at the yarn shop on Saturday. There is new yarn at the shop. Fingering (?) weight silk/camel blend. Yup. You read that correctly. Silk and Camel. And it's yummy. And there's new silk and new merino/silk blend.

3. I spent Saturday night baking cakes and making fruit flans for an open house at my SIL's place. My lovely in-laws celebrated their 40th wedding annivesary! Over 75 people came to the party. It was really nice. Lots of little old ladies from the church who were all thrilled to see Mr. Happy. Mr. Happy's dad was the minister at a church here in Dartmouth for 17 years. Some of these women haven't seen Mr. Happy in about 10 years. They were so sweet.

Typical conversation with the sweet church ladies: "Oh, Mr. Happy, don't you look just like your dad when he was young... and is this your wife? Did I hear she made the cake and the fruit flans? You've got a gem there!"

Mr. Happy's ego is now sufficiently inflated. Thank you very much.

4. I ripped a sweater I had almost completed for my cousin's daughter. It's the garter stitch cardigan from Weekend Knitting. My row gauge was fine, but my stitch gauge was off. And since the sweater is knit from side to side (instead of from the top down or bottom up) the sweater would have been too short. ARGH!

5. I've been collapsing in bed at night. I'm exhausted.

6. Neglecting housework. I cannot remember the last time it was thoroughly cleaned (tidied, dusted, vacuumed, mopped, dust bunnies executed...). Ugh. I think it might be tonight.

7. Wishing I had more hours in the day.

8. Trying to keep Henry and Mauve occupied. They refuse to get jobs or do housework. I come home every day to sneakers piled by the back door and cds all over the living room. It's ridiculous. I'm ready to ship them off to boot camp.

Well there must be some consolation in knowing they have a Maritimer’s good manners to remove their shoes before coming into the house... rather than traipsing through the house with their shoes on, or heaven forbid sitting with their shoes up on the chesterfield. I believe school starts soon. Mauve is registered at NSCAD & DALTECH. She apparently wants to pursue graphic design & engineering. BTW, she has a full scholarship so no need to worry about the cost. She may need bus fare though, unless you are keeping the Mini then she said she will use that... once she learns to drive.

  2. Housework can wait. Save it up for a rainy day. When I come to visit Dartmouth will you make a flan?

(I've decided to start working on trying to get some shows in cities where I have friends I want to visit. Anything you can let me know about artist-run centres in your neck of the woods would be appreciated).

This probably isn't what you want to hear now that you've ripped, but couldn't you have finished the sweater, assembled it, then picked up stitches at the bottom and added some sort of contrast band to lengthen it? I'm a big fan of the "I meant to do that" creative fix.

Argh. I so wanted to come to the shop on Saturday to see the new yarn - but was too busy as well.

Holy baking - you are phenom. I just managed to drink too much on Sat night at our little dinner party.

  4. Give Henry 24 hours in my toddler's "gentle" care and he'll smarten up and appreciate his surroundings quick enough!
I hear ya about not enough hours in a day though...I end each day feeling like I accomplished nothing even though I was terribly busy...
