Ola! We're home!
We got in late last night - 2am by the time we went to bed. The flight was delayed b/c they had to change a tire on the plane. We all got on the plane, taxied out to the runway, then whoops-a-daisy, taxied back to the gate and got off the plane so they could have another looksie at that tire. That instills confidence, lemme tell ya!
I'd tell you all about my self-imposed house arrest today, but I'm trying to keep the poop talk to a minimum now that we're all home. Travelling with three kids - ages 8, 10 and 12 - makes for great chats about farting, work stoppage and poop chutes, lemme tell ya! Hee hee.
Mr. Happy and I spent a glorious week at the Mayan Palace on the Mayan Riviera with his sister, her husband and their three kids. We had such a great trip. The kids are great travellers and we all got along quite well.
Here's a quick review of our week:
Friday, Travel day:
- up at 4am
- flight at 6:30am
- arrive in Cancun 12:30pm
- First Pina Coladas 2pm
Saturday - Pool day:
- spent all day lounging poolside at hotel.
- knit
- swim
- read
Sunday - Moon Palace:
- Day pass at the Moon Palace
- My SIL and I went to the spa (massages, manicure, pedicures)
- Mr. Happy, BIL and kids play in pool and snorkle in ocean
- Henry hams it up in the lobby
Monday - our resort:
- More Pina Coladas (we discover Happy hour is happy two hours and ordering one drink gets you two)
- Henry volunteers to watch the kids in the pool
- We soon discover he is making eyes at a bikini clad lady on the opposite side of the pool.
- We send Henry for a nap under the Palapa
- he later toddles off and we find he has made himself a new friend:
Tuesday - Xcaret
- Xcaret is an ecological theme park
- We spent the day wandering around the park which includes an aquarium and fish hatchery, a flamingo reserve, a mushroom farm, a butterfly pavillion, and much more.
Highlights of the day:
1. Snorkling - saw lots of fish, swam above the sea trekkers and snuba divers (seriously, you've got to click on the sea trekker link - so cool)
2. Swimming in the underground river. It was cold, over a kilmetre long, and a concern for the clausterphobic among us, but totally cool.
3. Leading the way in crossing a "pond" on a rope "bridge" (one rope for your feet, one for your hands). I'm ready for my stint on Survivor now, thanks.
Wednesday - Playa Del Carmen:
- Yelling market vendors
- Bought a sombrero for Henry
- Saw some dirty street meat, thought of Jaichan
- Ate at a questionable restaurant - have had a "rock" in my belly since then.
Thursday - Pool day:
- Spent all day by the pool or snorkling in the Caribbean
- Read
- Knit
- Swam
Friday
- Headed home
- Henry has portrait drawn in airport (by my nephew):
Other highlights of trip:
- eating my weight in guacamole
- getting quite a bit of knitting done
- getting to hang out with Mr. Happy for 8 consecutive days with little to no interruption

ReplyDeleteI love Henry's "old man" bathing suit that comes up over his waist. (Does Henry have a waist?)
Sea trekkers! SO cool.
ReplyDeleteMr Moe and I have not been on "real" vacation since 2000. *sigh*
That said, I don't exactly yearn for GI distress.
Oh, Henry. You're such a cad.
I'm glad you had fun! But I wish that I could a) take photographs as well as you do and b) go on vacation.
